Oprah may be wrong on this one...

I may happen to get a lot of heat for this post because Oprah has overstepped her boundaries! While reading up on USA Today, I stumbled upon a very interesting article called, "No, Oprah, America isn't racist" written by Mark Joseph.

This article sticks up for America, by arguing that we are not in fact racist. Oprah hinted that Obama has gotten less popular because he is an African American man in office. But in fact, no one had even been thinking this until she happened to point something so absurd out. I know what you are thinking, how could I not take Oprah's side? It is easy actually, she is not always right. She is an amazing person, but she does not have the right to conclude that just because his popularity is down, it is automatically because of his skin color. I am sorry to say Oprah, but you may need to back down on this one.

In this article Mark explains how people are not born racist, and America is not all racist. It is rather, a choice. And Obama just so happens to be a very successful African American in office for the first time, so it is very easy to blame race when something goes wrong. But in this case Obama shows that even after his unpopular movement, the Obama Care Act, he still has a higher rating than the last few WHITE presidents at their lowest points during presidency. So I would have to agree with Mark Joseph here and say, No, Oprah, America isn't racist.

Stay out of this!

As years go by more people are starting to realize that gay rights really is not a big deal and should be available to every same sex couple. More citizens are becoming aware that gay marriage should be at the couple's discretion. Marriage should be about two people who are in love wanting to combine their lives in every way. It should not matter if it is two men, two women, or one of each. If someone loves another person, gender or race should not be a contributing factor to the all famous question "is it the right thing to do?".

National government tends to bud in and justify why they think gay marriage is not constitutional. However, in my personal opinion, that is just disrespectful. Gay or not gay, the two people are in love... what makes them so different? Who is to say they are not in love just as much as the straight couple. Gay rights should be legal in all states, and not just in select states that the government thinks is appropriate. How would you like it if you had found your soul mate and was told no you can not get married because you are the same sex. It just does not make sense. The government in the US states that we have the separation of church and state. How can the state make decisions based on old church standards? Personally, the government should stay out of this argument, and allow people who have 'free rights' be able to make life decisions on their own. These people should not be looked down upon because of their sexual orientation, they are just like straight couples.

As a free country we should allow everyone to have equal rights, no matter race, or gender. If the government keeps choosing who they grant equal rights too, they might as well declare this country as free, but free to a user's discretion.

Poor Obama...

Continuing with the important Obama Care Act, we have successfully gained a foothold on whether we want to enroll online or through our employer. I stumbled upon an opinion article from USA Today called "HealthCare.gov feeds doubts about rollout: Our view" written by their editorial board. In this article they happened to favor that this website is supposed to 'help' the American people with their health insurance is having glitches because the whole act in itself is much unorganized. The author really wants the reader to side with them. However, I tend to strongly disagree! Let’s be real, this is the internet and glitches happen. And just because it is Obama's idea to push this through, it does NOT mean that it is HIS fault because the site is experiencing difficulties.
Sure, I agree with the author with his claims regarding that the site was experiencing some sort of lag due to the fact that hundreds of people are trying to load the site at once, but I just cannot wrap my mind around the fact that some people are arguing that this is Obama's fault. Some people are claiming that this is also a way of congress simply buying time because they were so unsure of this act actually going through.
The author is intending the audience to be the general public; they would like the reader to really think about other scenarios as to why the site is experiencing so many problems. They ask questions like, is there a deeper meaning to all of this, or if Obama really had good intentions would he not of made sure to check the site over and over again? I think that some people are looking for a deeper meaning of the website problems, when it is just simply lagging due to the mass amounts of usage.

Let's save the children!

One of today's biggest topics is the Obama care act. People cannot figure out if it is a good thing or a bad thing. While reading up on USA Today I came across Irwin Redlener and Jane Pauley's opinion article called, "Health key to classroom success". I found this article very interesting because it showed a side of the Obama care act that everyone tends to ignore, and it is that of the children. Not only are adults affected by this care act but children as well.

In the article they mention children in poor and rough areas that cannot afford to go to the doctor and or dentist and have to suffer day in and day out are now being treated. They are now covered with insurance so they can live on a daily basis without the fear of getting sick or having to suppress an injury because their parents cannot afford a visit to a local health facility.

The authors argue that this is a good thing, and the care act is going in the right direction but it needs to be pushed a little further to get in rolling in action. I tend to agree with the authors. This is amazing to finally have a care act where children are covered and can be tended but health care partners. Children should be covered no matter what to maintain a well rounded education. Pauley and Redlener make this article intended for the public to know what is going on. Again, I totally agree with the claims they are making, I feel this is very important and this could be a huge game changer for the United States if followed consistently.

But they are someone's father, mother, sister or brother too...

Something that has been very dear to me is the ongoing issues of immigration. While reading up on it on CBSNEWS I found it so interesting that immigration has increased since the reccesion. I must say that I do not agree with the Government being allowed to impliment who is able to live in the US and who is not. I see it that people are people and are all equal no matter what race, or country they are from. Researchers have noticed that in Texas the number of immigrants have increased due to our strong economy. They also report that there are about 11 million immigrants here illegally. Steve Camarota the director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies advocates tighter policies because "The numbers remind us of the problem of illegal immigration isn't going away anytime soon, unless we take steps to enforce the laws or have legalization of those here illegally." If America is really a free country why are we denying these people freedom? I do not think it is right for the Government to tell us who is free and who is not to live in the United States, everyone should be equal. This article is worth reading becuase immigration is really something people do not think about on a day to day basis. Immigration should be adressed in a diffrent way. People should not have to "sneak through" a border partol just to start a free life.
